Sony has unveiled two new wireless headsets for PlayStation 5, introducing the PlayStation Pulse Wireless Headset and Pulse Edge Wireless Headset as the next generation of its PS5 audio lineup.
The new models focus on studio-inspired planar magnetic drivers, improved bass, AI-enhanced microphone noise rejection and a redesigned form factor. The standard Pulse headset is scheduled to launch in select markets during the 2026 holiday season, while the higher-end Pulse Edge is coming in early 2027.
Sony has not yet announced exact launch dates, preorder dates or pricing for either headset.
Sony Introduces Two New PS5 Wireless Headsets
The new PlayStation Pulse and Pulse Edge headsets build on Sony’s Pulse Elite, which launched in 2024 as the company’s first wireless PlayStation headset featuring planar magnetic drivers and PlayStation Link connectivity.
Sony says the new models are designed to deliver a more detailed and lifelike audio experience for gaming and entertainment.
Custom studio-inspired planar magnetic drivers are at the center of the new headsets. The technology is intended to improve sound separation and spatial accuracy, helping players identify directional sounds such as footsteps and weapon reloads in competitive games.
Both models also use larger planar drivers than the previous Pulse Elite design, which Sony says creates fuller and deeper bass while maintaining clarity.
PlayStation Pulse Offers the Core New Audio Features
The standard PlayStation Pulse Wireless Headset is designed as the more straightforward option in the new lineup.
It features custom planar magnetic drivers with four magnets per planar driver, along with an integrated microphone equipped with AI-enhanced noise rejection.
The microphone technology is designed to filter background sounds and make in-game voice chat clearer.
The headset also has built-in volume controls and an updated design intended to improve comfort and durability during longer gaming sessions.
Rotating earcups allow the headset to lie flat, making it easier to carry when traveling.
The PlayStation Pulse will be available in White and Midnight Black.
Pulse Edge Adds Active Noise Cancellation and a Detachable Mic
The Pulse Edge Wireless Headset adds several features aimed at players looking for a more premium audio setup.
Its planar magnetic drivers use eight magnets per planar driver, compared with four magnets per planar driver in the standard Pulse. Sony says the additional hardware helps deliver richer, deeper bass while preserving the precision and clarity of quieter audio details.
Pulse Edge also includes active noise cancellation, which is designed to reduce unwanted ambient sounds.
Another major difference is the microphone. Instead of relying only on an integrated microphone, Pulse Edge has a detachable boom mic with AI-enhanced noise rejection. When the boom microphone is removed, a hidden microphone can still be used.
The headset also includes a carrying case for protection and an audio/microphone jack.
Like the standard Pulse, Pulse Edge has built-in volume controls. It additionally provides built-in game-audio and chat-balance controls for PS5.
The Pulse Edge will also be sold in White and Midnight Black.

The biggest differences are therefore concentrated in the Pulse Edge’s audio hardware, microphone system and noise-control features.
PlayStation Link Connects PS5, Portal, PC and Mac
Both headsets support PlayStation Link, Sony’s wireless audio technology.
The connection is designed to provide lossless, ultra-low-latency audio and lets users switch between supported PlayStation Link devices.
Those include PS5 consoles, PlayStation Portal remote player, PC and Mac.
The headsets can also connect simultaneously to supported Bluetooth devices.
That combination gives players more flexibility when using the same headset for gaming and other audio devices.
AI Noise Rejection Comes to Both Models
Sony is also emphasizing voice communication with the new headsets.
Both Pulse and Pulse Edge feature AI-enhanced noise rejection designed to remove background noise picked up by their microphones.
For the standard Pulse, the microphone is integrated into the headset.
Pulse Edge takes a different approach by combining its detachable boom microphone with a hidden microphone that can be used when the boom is removed.
The goal is clearer voice communication while gaming without requiring players to completely isolate themselves from their surrounding environment.
A Redesigned Form Factor
Sony has redesigned the physical form of both headsets for comfort and durability.
The rotating earcups allow the headsets to fold flat, which should make them easier to store and transport.
The new models are intended to provide a more comfortable fit during extended gaming sessions while retaining the wireless functionality of the Pulse family.
Both models will be available in the same two color options: White and Midnight Black.
When Will the New PS5 Headsets Launch?
