Kartik Aaryan’s ‘Captain India’ Finally Takes Off: September Shoot Set Ahead of 2027 Release
Kartik Aaryan’s long-delayed aviation drama ‘Captain India’ is finally moving into production, with filming scheduled to begin in September 2026.
The film, directed by Shimit Amin, is expected to begin principal photography in London on September 1, with the production schedule running through October.
The latest development gives the project a clearer path after several changes since it was first announced in 2021.
From a 2021 announcement to a new production phase
‘Captain India’ was originally announced with Hansal Mehta as director and was expected to begin filming in early 2022.
The project later changed hands, with Shimit Amin taking over as director. The move is significant because ‘Captain India’ marks Amin’s return to feature filmmaking after his previous film, ‘Rocket Singh: Salesman of the Year,’ released in 2009.
Amin is best known for films including ‘Chak De! India’ and ‘Rocket Singh: Salesman of the Year.’
Kartik Aaryan plays a pilot in a rescue drama
Aaryan will portray a pilot involved in a high-stakes evacuation mission inspired by a real humanitarian rescue operation.
The cast has also expanded, with Parvathy Thiruvothu reported to have joined the film in a key role. Recent reports have described the project as an aviation thriller built around a major rescue operation.
The screenplay is credited to Nash Vazifdar, Sanchit Gupta and Priyadarshee Shrivastava.
When will ‘Captain India’ release?
The film is currently scheduled to reach cinemas on August 13, 2027, placing its release during India’s Independence Day weekend.
That gives the makers several months after the planned 2026 shoot to complete post-production on the aviation-focused drama.
For Aaryan, the project also represents a shift toward a more serious action-driven role, with the actor taking on the part of a pilot at the centre of a large-scale rescue story.
After years of changes, ‘Captain India’ now has a production start date, a director, an expanded cast and a confirmed theatrical release window.
