1. Laufey Signs With Interscope Records and Verve Records
Laufey has signed with Universal Music Group’s Interscope Records and Verve Records following six years of building her career independently.
The two-time Grammy winner has developed a distinctive musical identity that combines pop songwriting with jazz and classical influences. The new deal brings that sound to a new label partnership while she continues working on new material.
Variety exclusively reported the agreement.
No release date, album title or tracklist has yet been announced for Laufey’s next project.
2. Major Achievements During Her Independent Career
Laufey built a substantial global audience during her six years as an independent artist.
Her three studio albums have accumulated more than 7 billion combined global streams.
In 2025, she was named among Time’s Women of the Year. In her home country of Iceland, she was also awarded the honor of Icelandic Knight by the country’s president.
Her work has also extended beyond recorded music. Her first children’s book, “Mei Mei the Bunny,” became a New York Times bestseller.
Laufey has performed with major orchestral institutions including the Los Angeles Philharmonic, the National Symphony Orchestra and the China Philharmonic Orchestra.
She has also recently completed a major global tour.
3. Bringing Jazz and Classical Music to a New Generation
Laufey’s music has introduced jazz and classical influences to thousands of younger listeners.
Variety’s Chris Willman noted that her 2024 Hollywood Bowl audience included large numbers of people under 30, particularly listeners under 25. Some young fans have also adopted clothing styles associated with Laufey’s signature aesthetic.
Her appeal extends beyond her recorded music and into her live performances.
At Coachella in April 2026, Variety’s Jem Aswad highlighted a performance featuring Laufey with a jazz group, string quartet and dancers.
Laufey also played piano, guitar and cello during the performance.
The show incorporated complex jazz chords and complicated melodies while maintaining the accessible songwriting style that has helped introduce these musical traditions to a younger audience.
4. Laufey’s Previous Albums and Music Career
Laufey released her third studio album, “A Matter of Time,” in August 2025.
The album was released through Vingolf Recordings and AWAL, with “Tough Luck” serving as its lead song.
Laufey worked with Spencer Stewart and Aaron Dessner as co-producers on “A Matter of Time.”
The album followed “Bewitched,” which was released in 2023.
In 2025, Laufey also released the single “Silver Lining.” The song was accompanied by a 35mm-shot masquerade-ball music video created by Jason Lester.
5. A Very Laufey Day — Events in 75 Cities
Last month, Laufey held the fourth annual “A Very Laufey Day,” expanding the event to 75 cities across more than 25 countries.
The celebration included live performances and activities hosted at museums, libraries, bookstores, cafes and coffee shops, as well as yogurt and ice cream shops.
Brand collaborations and merchandise sales generated proceeds that were donated to the Laufey Foundation.
The foundation works to make education and resources more accessible to young musicians.
The event has become another way for Laufey to connect her music audience with music education and community-focused initiatives.
6. Laufey Foundation
Laufey launched The Laufey Foundation in 2025 with a focus on helping young musicians gain access to youth orchestra programs.
Its early support has included the Boston Youth Symphony Orchestra, the Los Angeles Philharmonic’s YOLA program, The Cleveland Orchestra Youth Orchestra, Carnegie Hall’s NYO2 and NYO Jazz.
The foundation reflects Laufey’s broader connection to music education and her interest in making opportunities in music more accessible to younger generations.
7. New Music After the Deal
Following her signing with Interscope Records and Verve Records, Laufey is working on new music.
For now, details about the project remain limited.
There has been no announcement of a release date, album title or tracklist for her upcoming music.
