New York’s “Spring Awakening” will return in a new Off-Broadway revival this fall, with a principal cast that includes a mix of established performers and Off-Broadway newcomers.
The production will feature Ashlyn Maddox as Wendla, Tyler Jordan Wesley as Melchior, Ryo Kamibayashi as Moritz and Amalia Yoo as Ilse.
The principal cast also includes Jack Bateman as Georg, Jada Simone Clark as Thea, Leif Coomer as Ernst, Nando Morland as Otto, Antonio Porciello as Hanschen, Khadija Sankoh as Martha and Grace Slear as Anna.
Yoo made her Broadway debut last year in the Tony-nominated play “John Proctor Is the Villain.” Maddox has been associated with “Parade,” while Kamibayashi has appeared in “Oh, Mary!”
Bateman and Porciello were among the performers selected through an open casting call held in July. The casting process considered 2,532 actors, with Deadline reporting that several roles in the new production went to Off-Broadway newcomers.

Previews for the new “Spring Awakening” revival will begin on November 27, 2026.
The production’s official opening night is scheduled for December 17, 2026.
The revival will be staged at Studio Seaview in New York as part of the city’s Off-Broadway theater scene.

The production is directed by Danya Taymor, a Tony Award winner.
Celia Rowlson-Hall is handling choreography, while Or Matias serves as music supervisor.
Producer Greg Nobile described the cast as an “exceptional group of actors” and said the performers represent the future of the industry.
Nobile also said the production team is honored to give the actors the opportunity to bring their “unique voices” to the work.
4. ‘Spring Awakening’ Story
“Spring Awakening” follows a group of German adolescents in the late 19th century as they confront sexuality, repression and the pressures surrounding adolescence.
The musical combines the period setting with a contemporary rock score, creating a contrast between the teenagers’ experiences and the social environment surrounding them.
Its best-known songs include “Mama Who Bore Me,” “The Bitch of Living” and “Totally Fucked.”
The producers describe the new revival as “feral, honest, compassionate, and unflinching.”
The production will explore the experiences of young people as they navigate desire, repression, fear and discovery, examining those experiences in the context of “then and now.”
5. Original Broadway History
“Spring Awakening” made its Broadway debut in 2006.
The original Broadway production helped launch the careers of Jonathan Groff, Lea Michele and John Gallagher Jr.
The musical returned to Broadway in 2015 in a revival created in collaboration with Deaf West Theatre.
That revival was directed by Michael Arden.
