Former Liverpool and Bournemouth footballer Jordon Ibe has avoided jail after admitting he assaulted his former partner, Amie Mayson, during an argument in south London.
Ibe, 30, was sentenced at Croydon Magistrates’ Court on Friday after pleading guilty to assault occasioning actual bodily harm.
The court heard that Ibe pulled a braid from Mayson’s hair during the December incident, leaving her with a bald patch.

Magistrate Brij Kalia gave Ibe a 12-month community order, along with 80 hours of unpaid work and 27 days of rehabilitation activity.
He was also ordered to pay £764, including a £114 surcharge and £650 in court costs.
Ibe represented himself in court and told the magistrate that he had made a serious mistake.
He said he understood that his actions were wrong and that he was genuinely remorseful.
What happened between Ibe and his ex-girlfriend?
The assault happened on December 14 outside Mayson’s home in Lambeth, south London.
Prosecutors said Mayson confronted Ibe and asked him to repay money she said he owed her.
Ibe had arrived carrying a bag containing drinks, snacks and flowers, but the confrontation escalated.
According to the prosecution case, Mayson threw muffins onto the ground and called Ibe a “druggy”. Ibe then grabbed her arm and hair before pulling a braid from her head.
Prosecutor Aya Alshekhili told the court that the incident had a serious effect on Mayson’s confidence, self-esteem and sense of self-worth.

In a victim impact statement, Mayson said the incident had affected her both physically and mentally.
She also told the court that she continued to experience feelings of fear but said she felt compassion toward Ibe.
Mayson said forgiveness had become part of her healing process.
The court heard that the pair had been in an on-and-off relationship since late 2024.
Ibe changed his plea to guilty
Ibe had initially denied the charge when he appeared in court in March.
He later changed his plea to guilty in July.
The case concerns a charge of assault occasioning actual bodily harm, a more serious form of assault than common assault where the victim suffers an injury that is more than merely minor or transient.
Jordon Ibe’s football career
Ibe joined Liverpool in 2012 and made 58 appearances for the club in all competitions.
He later played for Derby County and Birmingham City before joining AFC Bournemouth, where he made 92 appearances between 2016 and 2020.
The winger also represented England Under-21s.
After spending time playing non-league football, Ibe moved to Bulgarian club Lokomotiv Sofia in November 2025. He had previously spent two years in non-league football before the move.
Ibe was also arrested at Luton Airport on January 30, according to the Metropolitan Police.
What happens next?
Ibe will now have to complete the requirements imposed by the court, including his unpaid work and rehabilitation activity.
His sentence means he has avoided immediate imprisonment, but the conviction and court order remain on his record.
