Hulu has canceled Mindy Kaling’s comedy series “Not Suitable for Work” after one season, Variety reported, ending the show’s run on the streaming platform.
The series launched in June and ran for nine episodes. Hulu will not move forward with a second season, although the story may not be completely over.
Warner Bros. Television, which produces the series, plans to shop it to potential new homes, creating the possibility that another streamer or network could pick up the comedy.
The show follows five work-focused twenty-somethings trying to build careers while navigating relationships and adult life in Manhattan’s Murray Hill neighborhood.
The cast includes Ella Hunt, Avantika, Will Angus, Jack Martin, Nicholas Duvernay and Jay Ellis. Kaling created and executive produced the series alongside showrunner Charlie Grandy and producer Howard Klein.
The cancellation comes only a few months after the comedy debuted. Hulu premiered the first three episodes on June 2, followed by additional episodes through the June 23 finale.
For now, there will be no Season 2 on Hulu. But with Warner Bros. Television looking for another buyer, the series could still have a chance at continuing elsewhere.
