Pierce Brosnan and his wife, Keely Shaye Brosnan, are considering leaving their Malibu home after 26 years.
The couple’s oceanfront mansion has been their family home since 2000. But Brosnan, 73, says repeated wildfires, earthquake concerns, changing friendships and the cost of maintaining the property have made them question whether it is time to move.

Why Pierce Brosnan Wants to Leave Malibu
Brosnan told The Times that wildfires are one of the main reasons he is considering leaving the property.
“We’ve been spared by the fires a few times now,” he said, adding that he thinks “it’s time to move.”
The actor also pointed to the area’s earthquake risk. Their home sits beside the Pacific Ocean in a region affected by major earthquake and wildfire threats.
“That creates a fear,” Brosnan said.
Their Malibu Home Has Already Faced a Fire
The couple’s concerns are not new.
In February 2015, a fire that started in Brosnan’s garage spread into part of the house. The blaze caused roughly $1 million in damage.
The Los Angeles County Fire Department said about 50 firefighters took nearly 40 minutes to respond, contain and extinguish the fire.
The property survived the 2015 fire, but Brosnan and Keely faced another major threat during the January 2025 Palisades Fire.
That fire burned more than 23,000 acres in the Los Angeles area. More than 6,500 structures were destroyed, 975 were damaged and at least 27 people died, according to figures cited by Us Weekly from Cal Fire.
The Brosnans’ home was spared.
They Already Tried to Sell It for $100 Million
This is not the first time the couple has considered leaving Malibu.
Brosnan and Keely listed the property for $100 million in 2020. They ultimately remained in the home.
They purchased two parcels of land in 2000 for a combined $7.35 million, according to Variety.
The couple initially lived in a smaller ranch-style house on the property before demolishing it and building their current estate.
The Mansion Was Inspired by Thailand
The Brosnans designed the five-bedroom, 14-bathroom house around their travels in Thailand.
Brosnan filmed Tomorrow Never Dies there, and the experience influenced the design of the property.
The oceanfront estate includes a spa and home cinema. The Times described the residence as resembling a “James Bond fever dream.”
The couple named the property Orchid House.
Their Sons Have Grown Up and Moved Out
The Malibu house was also the place where Brosnan and Keely raised their two sons, Dylan and Paris.
Dylan is 29 and Paris is 25.
With both sons now adults and living their own lives, the couple has been spending more time away from Malibu.
They have a three-bedroom cottage in Kauai, Hawaii, where Keely was born and raised.
Brosnan said the couple has chickens there and that he has a yurt where he paints.
Hawaii Has Become More Important to Them
Brosnan has previously described Hawaii as home.
When the couple tried to sell Orchid House in 2020, he said he loved Malibu but indicated that Hawaii was where they expected to spend more of their time.
Their current lifestyle in Kauai is considerably more private.
That fits the way Brosnan now describes himself and Keely: relatively reclusive and with a smaller social circle.
Their Social Circle Has Changed
Brosnan also pointed to another reason for leaving.
After living in Malibu for decades, the couple’s circle of friends has changed.
“People get divorced, they die, they move on,” he told The Times. “And we’re still here.”
He said the property is also a long way from town, making the location less convenient for their current lifestyle.
The Cost of the House Is Another Factor
Brosnan also spoke openly about the financial pressure of maintaining the estate.
He said there have been difficult periods when he has worried about having enough work to cover expenses.
“I have this beautiful house in Malibu. I have to pay the mortgage. There are school fees,” he told The Times.
The comments suggest the decision is not based on one issue alone. The couple is weighing the risks of living in Malibu against the cost and practical demands of maintaining a large estate.
Pierce and Keely Have Been Married Since 2001
Brosnan and Keely married in 2001, a year after purchasing the Malibu property.
They had met in 1994, three years after Brosnan’s first wife, Cassandra Harris, died from ovarian cancer.
Brosnan had one son, Sean, with Harris and also adopted her two children, Christopher and Charlotte.
Charlotte later died from ovarian cancer.
Brosnan and Keely went on to raise Dylan and Paris together in Malibu.
Will Pierce Brosnan Actually Sell the House?
The couple has not announced a confirmed sale.
For now, Brosnan has said they are considering moving after more than two decades in the property.
The mansion was previously offered for $100 million in 2020, but there is no confirmed new asking price or sale date.
For a couple who has spent 26 years building a life around the Malibu property, the decision now appears to be less about the house itself and more about whether Malibu still fits the life they want.
